Value-Added, Hands-On Partner
GCP differentiates
itself from other Japanese VCs in that we do not simply invest-we participate as
a partner in each investee firm, working closely with management by providing
the necessary managerial and business support as well as access to talent to
ensure success.
GCP's purpose is two-fold: 1) to provide investee companies
with "people," "capital" and the "know-how" necessary for solid growth; and 2)
to create more attractive investment opportunities for our investors.
Investment Stages
GCP tailors its investment activity according to the stage of the investee company. The balanced-portfolio strategy is applied to the management of GCP's investment funds, with an effort made to allocate funds equally among the 3 stages.

Seed Stage
GCP generally
does not invest in seed stage companies, i.e. a business idea which exists only
on paper. However, promising business plans will be considered and we will
gladly provide advise and strategic support.
Investment Size
GCP currently invests from its third fund totaling JPY18 billion from institutional investors in Japan, U.S. and Europe. From this fund, GCP makes investments averaging JPY300 million to JPY500 million and up to JPY 1800 million, in venture businesses and MBOs. This investment size represents an amount that is approximately 10 times that of typical Japanese VCs. Greater capital provision leads to faster business growth by maximizing the availability and early infusion of critical management resources.
For early stage businesses, initial investment can start from JPY100 million, augmenting this amount in the following stages to match the growth and financing needs of the business.
Investment Criteria
GCP funds venture businesses, potential MBOs and corporate spin-offs that are incorporated or have significant business presence in Japan.
Currently, Over 90% of our investee companies are Japanese companies. Japan subsidiaries of overseas businesses are generally not considered. However, exceptions are made where the Japan subsidiary is incorporated in Japan and operates with autonomy from the parent company.
Investee companies are evaluated and selected by GCP's professional team.
Selection Criteria
Focus on a high-growth
market
Clear advantage and differentiation from competitors
The quality,
background and expertise of the management team in the industry or business area
Investment Areas
GCP actively invests in knowledge-intensive fields, particularly those businesses with the highest growth and scalability potential. The GCP investment professionals possess extensive experience in both management and investing. GCP supports the growth of investee companies by providing the management know-how and human resources, in addition to investment capital, which are necessary in knowledge-intensive businesses.
